Administrative History | Methodism in Sidcup has its origins in 1882 when on 26 February Mr James C Vanner, a member of the Chislehurst Wesleyan Church conducted a service in Unity Cottage in Birkbeck Road. A week later a meeting was held for the purpose of forming a wesleyan Methodist Society. In 1883 the Sidcup Chapel Trust was formed and in 1884 a buiding, now the church hall was erected and opened in Hadlow Road. Within 10 years the Sidcup Society had overgrown its premises and in 1895 the present church was built. In 1976 the Church united with Sidcup United Reformed Church, formerly Sidcup Congregational Church to form the Emmanuel Church later re-named Emmanuel Methodist Church. |
