Description | Bexley Local Board was established in 1880 and was responsible for highways and sanitation. In 1896 it was succeeded by Bexley Urban District Council, which also took over the duties of the parish Vestry. In 1938 Bexley became a Borough and the Borough Council acquired yet further powers. Nevertheless the miniutes which record the formal proceedings of the three bodies run as a continuous series. This ended when the old Borough of Bexley merged into the new London Borough of Bexley in 1965.
