Administrative History | In 1879, the various charities administered by the vicar and churchwardens of Bexley were brought together into a trust formed with the advice and approval of the Charity Commission. Trustees were appointed, who took over the records of the separate charities and began to keep records of their own transactions.
For the period before 1879, there are inevitably large gaps. Several of the ancient charities are represented by no more than a mention in lists of charities compiled from time to time and some of these have penciled against the word 'lost'. But others are quite well documented and in case of the Styleman's Almshouses, we have evidence from such sources as the Danson collection from which to supplement the records in the Bexley United Charities archives. |
