DescriptionThe collection contains some material concerning Frank Buckland's early politcial life in the Independent Labour Party and some personal correspondence. The majority of the collection contains newspaper cuttings and research notes on the history of Bexley. The unpublished manuscript, 'Bexley: An Historical Sketch of the Borough by Frank Buckland' is also contained in this collection.

Administrative HistoryFrank Buckland was appointed Librarian to Bexley Urban District Council in January 1927. He worked in the Library Service for nineteen years until his retirement in 1945 and during this time he was instrumental in expanding library provision in the Borough. Buckland was a keen local historian who researched and wrote a history of Bexley. In his retirement he continued to take an interest in the Borough and until he moved to Frinton he frequently acted as a guide to parties visiting Hall Place. Franck Buckland died on 16 November 1959.
